About Me

Hello, my name is Neil and welcome to my blog, ElcomeSoft.

Born in 1985, I'm a geordie born and bred (from the North East of England) and have always had a natural draw to technology, especially computers and computer games. I was fortunate enough to be born in time to appreciate the true golden eras of gaming, the emergence of time-old classics such as Pong and PacMan to Mario Brothers, Dune II and too many others to name.

Thanks to my dad I was a big Amiga fan and still hail Workbench as one of the best operating systems ever developed. Game developer legends such as Team17, Sensible Software and Gremlin just to name a few roamed the platforms and produced games which most people have only heard of in passing, such as Project X, Cannon Fodder, and Zool which helped form the basis of many games we have had over the years.

In 1996, I made my first foray into PC Gaming with Quake, perhaps the real catalyst for truly competitive First Person Shooter play, and Mechwarrior 2, an amazing franchise based on the Battletech Universe which seems to have hit some legal issues before we'll see a Mechwarrior 5.

Over these years I have played many types of game, whether good or bad, but I still have core preferences in my genres. Unfortunately ever since Half Life 2, several FPS games can make me feel motion sick and until that is resolved, games like Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and any competitive FPS play is beyond me. Saying that I still love the FPS genre even if my body does not.

My favourite types of game are the RTS and the hack'n'slash-style RPG's at the moment. You cannot seem to keep me away from Titan Quest for more than a year at a time and as a big Warhammer 40,000 fiction fan, I am constantly drawn into the Dawn of War 1 and 2 series of games.

Hopefully you know a bit more about me now and will enjoy my site and what it has to offer you.
